I consulted with a team for their company design thinking exercise. They wanted to create an Alexa type interface to use within their manufacturing site to increase productivity. They did much of the design thinking before I came on board to create wireframes and prototypes. I listened to the problems they were trying to solve and made suggestions of how to go about designing solutions. The first and biggest issue I identified was the lack of digitization of their documents and lack of computer access within their factory. We also discussed the noise level in the factory being a potential roadblock to using voice recognition. I suggested they run some tests with an existing voice recognition device to determine if this was a potential solution to their productivity problem. They also recognized digitization was necessary to proceed with voice solutions.
I created 2 workflows from our discussions and notes to help identify the requirements of the employee needs and of the voice control product needs.
We moved ahead to designing a prototype assuming their digitization, computer access, and noise problems were addressed. I suggested we create a voice prototype in Adobe XD to showcase the potential of voice control for their manufacturing process. I created the Dashboard design to enable the Standard Operating Procedures to be accessed for the voice prototype. The final screens follow. The prototype plays in Adobe XD with the voice command feature. The team used the prototype to demonstrate the potential of voice control for their presentation of their design project.
